Chalkboard Class

Hi everyone and HAPPY FRIDAY!!! I can't believe the weekend is FINALLY here...it sure took it's time and boy was it a rough week this week...sigh! 

Since it's Mother's Day weekend, I'm hoping to get a little much needed pampering ;)

Well, I thought I'd show y'all the chalkboard card for the class I taught at my local stamping store, The Stamp Pad. I had quite a few gals sign up, how exciting!!! I'm really happy anytime someone signs up but this class was fuller than usual so I'm over the top about that! :)

As with the other cards I've shown you from my classes, I have to use products that the store carries (makes sense when you think about it) so I couldn't slip in any DeNami, but rest assured, these could easily be recreated with some darling DeNami stamps!

I have to admit that at first I didn't like the Mother's Day card. After talking to the shop owner, LeAnna, about it she suggested changing the center of my rosette to the brighter color you see in the picture. Amazing what one little change like that can do for a card! I really enjoyed playing with the inks and fun stamps (really wanting the W Plus 9 set on the Mother's Day card!). The Mother's Day card and the copper colored birthday card used pre-made tags from American Crafts. Can you believe the coloring on 2 of the cards was done with regular ole colored pencils...how cool is that? The chalkboard paper I used has a rough texture to it and it holds the ink and colored pencil colors really well.

Interactive cards....

Hi everyone...how's spring coming along in your neck of the woods? Here in Missouri it's not! :/  Monday was in the 40's and we had snow & drizzley rain then overnight it dipped below freezing so Tuesday we woke up to cold and a little ice and reached a high of 40. Today we have strong spring winds but we're only going to reach mid fifties for our high...what happened to "warm" Spring weather?? 

I'm really enjoying teaching card making classes at the little shop in Kimswick, MO called The Stamp Pad. All the gals are just so nice and we have a great time during the classes. I thought today I'd show you what we did for my last class a couple of weeks ago. Each month when I teach a class I try to have a common theme for the four cards we make, this month it was "interactive". 

 baby themed shaker card

I LOVE that The Stamp Pad carries a nice selection of different shaker pieces (clear plastic cups) and colored overlays to match, it makes making shaker cards easy peasy!! No cutting or punching and using foam tape to make the "shaker"!

I've always liked this little card layout and it lends itself to gals and guys. You can dress it up for a girl by making different paper choice of course but you can also make the inside panel a little wider and scallop the length with a border punch so that it peeks out when the card is closed.

 flowerpot card 

This is such a fun little card. It can be a tad tedious if you use pieced flowers like I did here but totally worth it. To open it you simply pull up on the flowers and they along with your sentiment panel slides up out of the flowerpot. I've made this card quite a while back using the DeNami daisy stamps - small daisy blossom & large daisy blossom. That was a lot of fussy cutting but OHHHHHH so worth it!!

waterfall card

I just love fun little waterfall cards and believe it or not, they are EASY to put together!! I have a soft spot for Paper Smooches and couldn't resist using this cute little kitty set. Each panel shows a kitty related item as they flip up. I would have LOVED to use a DeNami kitty and the kitty related Petit Four but I can only use products that are sold in the shop.

little valentine class...

For those of you that don't know, last December I was asked to start teaching card making classes by the owner of a darling little shop in my area called The Stamp Pad. My first class was on making gift card holders since it was right before Christmas. My next class was week before last so I decided to concentrate on Valentines Day. Here are the cards I made up for that class....

I can't believe that I FORGOT to take pictures of my creations!!! I had to go to the shops Facebook page and get them, lol...what a dummy I am!!!

I love the way they all turned out and I had wonderful feedback from the class.  That makes my heart swell with joy! :)  I wish I could use some yummy DeNami or Paper Sweeties stamps but I have to use items the store carries. Thinking my next class is going to go interactive...maybe a waterfall card and a shaker card to start with...sounds fun!

Gift Card Holders

Goodness, can you believe that tomorrow is Thanksgiving and my baby boy's 24th birthday???? Where did November go to and are we really ready for December??? I know I'm not!!!

 

Well, I do have some fun news that I've been sitting on and since it's finally official, I thought I'd share it with you. I have been asked to teach card making classes at my local stamp shop!!!! It's called The Stamp Pad and is located in a little historic village called Kimswick about 20 minutes outside St. Louis. To say I'm excited would be an understatement!! I'm honored that the owner has so much faith in me that she'd even ask and am just beyond thrilled!! My first class is on December 13th :)

 

I thought I'd show you what we'll be making in my first class at The Stamp Pad - gift card holders...

 

Now y'all have seen me do a version of this gift card holder before and I even had the honor of doing a tutorial on the DeNami Design blog!!

 

Now this little guy is too fun. I saw something like it on Pinterest (of course) and just had to try it myself. After a little fiddling I came up with a good pattern and I've already made a tutorial for you guys!! I was going to post it on Friday then I remembered that y'all will still be in your turkey induced coma or shopping so I've decided to wait until Wednesday of next week ;)  Wait until you see how fun and easy it is!!

 

Now this one is a little different because it's a standard A2 sized card. I've simply used a little die cut on the front to create a pocket for the gift card to slide into.

I simply used a little glue dot to attach the card to the tag that way the tag can be tucked back inside the card after the cards removed.

 

This little card is a standard A2 size also, but the secret is on the inside....

To make my pocket, I made my inside panel 1 1/2" taller than I normally would then scored/folded it up gluing the 2 ends. To fancy it up a little I added the maroon panel and a snowflake die cut border.

 

Besides the fun gift card holders, I though I'd have the gals try their hand at one of those trendy little decorative cones...

I think I may regret this decision since the prep time is going to kill me...I have to cut the cone pattern by hand and do a TON of die cutting for the flowers and sentiment is a little over the top, lol.

 

 

 

 

Well, there you have it, my first card making class! I'm so excited and hope that everyone likes my little gift card holders and cone...it makes me very nervous!!
