Take it on the chin and keep going...never give up on YOU!

*Blogger Note: I wrote and scheduled this post before Friday's announcement by DeNami. I'd like to congratulate Pattie on  her new position as a DeNami Design Team member and am looking forward to seeing her beautiful creations!!!

Hello everyone!! Today's subject is one of mixed emotions for me. I'm still flying high over being chosen the June sketch challenge winner over at Paper Sweeties, but at the same time am a little bummed about receiving yet another "thanks but no thanks" letter for something else. We'll get to that letter in just a minute.

It's no secret that I love entering card challenges online whenever I get a chance and that I have branched out into submitting to magazines. Most of the time when it comes to challenges and being published I feel like I'm on the outside looking in. It's almost like being in High School again and I'm the nerdy little girl in the corner reading a Stephan King novel while all the "kool kids" are hanging out in the smoking area laughing and having a great time talking about last weekends party. I see the same names winning/published over and over again...it's almost like a private club and no one else is allowed in. I'm going to let you in on a little secret, I. Don't. Care.! Okay, I do, but just a little.  I may not be one of the Kool Kids and don't have the secret password to gain entrance to the "club", but I refuse to let that hold me back! That being said, even when you know going in that you don't stand a chance you'll be chosen you still feel deflated, that's only natural. Do I get a little down...yes. Do I shed a tear or two sometimes...yes. A sweet friend mentioned to me the other day..."you know how us girls are". Sometimes I'm all girl and my feelings get the best of me, I cry, pout and even get angry, then I work through my feelings to get over it. But nothing is going to stop me from applying to design teams or submitting to challenges and magazines. My son has a tattoo that reads "To move on is to grow". I LOVE that saying. I will move on, grow and keep trying! Yes, my feelings get hurt and deflated, but I pick myself up and keep trying! Someday this nerdy girl will break through the barrier and kool kids will notice me and ask me to join in the fun!!

For about a year and a half now I've been wanting to be on a design team. There are a small handful of blogs that I have my eye on. I'm sure that ya'll can easily figure out that one of them is DeNami. I'd give my left arm and lets be real here...I'd give a leg too, lol, to be on the DeNami team. However, DeNami doesn't do an open call for their design team members, it's just by special invitation...sigh. Luckily the others I have my eye on do an open call!

I know my work is nothing special when compared to the gals that enter the challenge that runs on the particular blog I'm referring to, however, after talking with the blogs owner and her encouraging me, I decided to heed my own advice that sometimes in life you just have to take chances and frankly, it would be good to have one application under my belt. So, last month I applied for my very first design team position. My resume is pretty lacking and I have nothing big to bring to the table. With that being said, I like to think of myself as being friendly, out going, willing to learn and very dependable. Someday those attributes will out weigh my lack of challenge wins and overall popularity, until then, I'll take it on the chin and just keep plugging along. I can't let a rejection stop me from doing something that brings such joy to my life. I LOVE creating cards and being able to share them with you. I also LOVE getting to meet such wonderful people out here in bloggy land...you gals are amazing, an inspiration and just plain ole' rock!!

Many of you know Paulina from DeNami Design runs a personal blog called Pretty Pink Posh and hosts the fun 10 Minute Craft Dash. The entries for that challenge always blow me away...there are some amazingly talented people out there and they even come from all over the world!! She had a Design Team call and as part of the application we were to tell a little about ourselves and submit 4 pieces of work that we've created in under 10 minutes. I knew back on June 11th that I wasn't picked (received my thanks but no thanks e-mail) but didn't want to talk about it until after her new DT was announced. Not sure that it matters, but it felt wrong to talk about it until then.
My 10 Minute Craft Dash Design Team card entries:
Time: (can't remember the time but it was 8-something!)
Colors: blue, green & kraft

Time: 9min 40 sec
Colors: teal, orange, golden yellow

Time: 9min 03sec
Colors: green, orange, golden yellow, teal
Time: 9min 59sec (that was a close call!)
Colors: charcoal, light grey, pink

Well there you have it, my step outside of the box. But like I said, I WILL NOT give up. When I don't win a challenge or when I receive the "no thanks" e-mail from a magazine, I may have a moment of sadness, I am only human after all, but will chalk it up to a learning experience and keep going! Don't give up on your dreams and keep doing what makes YOU happy!! Winning or losing doesn't define you, it's how you react to that win or loss that does. Take the experience and learn from it and don't be scared to put yourself out there again.

HUGS to all of us nerdy girls!

For all of the girly girls...

Believe it or not, this is a card I created LAST JULY!! I've been trying to show this to you gals forever, but something else just kept getting in the way, lol. I wanted to create something for a friend that spoke of her fun and bubbly personality, not to mention her love of pink! She has been a life saver in more ways than one; weather it be techie help, spiritual help or just me keeping my sanity help...she rocks and I wanted to let her know I was thinking of her and appreciate her a lot! I think I may have captured her with this little creation. I'm glad I was at least able to send it to her when I created it and not a year later. lol!!!!

There's a lot of DeNami stamps that could easily reresent my friends personality and I couldn't decide on which stamps to use and the thought of individual panels all with different images finally kicked in. I love panels but when I start to make a card I never think about incorporating different sizes & shapes of them together like this. I used quite a few stamps on this card not to mention that it's basically a giant ball of glitter! Hmm, scallops, polka dots, glitter, purses (even if they're not from Coach), flowers, ribbon/bow and my fave color...everything I puffy heart love! No wonder we get along so well, lol, maybe I should have kept this little cutie and horded it, lol! ;) The only thing it's missing that we both love is a button...I sould have found a tiny one for the daisy center or maybe for the bow, too late now though.

That's all for today, thanks for stopping by!

Daisy love

Usually, when I sit down to make a card, if I don't already have an idea in mind, I tend to just stare at all my stamps and try to decide what to use.  In these situations, I always go for the Daisy to get the creative juices flowing.  First off, its a super cute stamp.  Secondly, it can be used for so many things.  And finally - what's not to love about this stamp?  So after stamping, die cutting and layering - voila!

What is your "go-to" stamp when you want to get your card mojo flowing?

I reached for the Daisy - AGAIN

Ok perhaps an intervention needs to be planned.  I mean, really, I seem to have a "thing" for the daisy stamps.  Yes, yes I do!  But in my defense the daisies are so versatile and cute.  How can you not love them?

I was looking through my stamps and couldn't decide on a boarder that I wanted to use and my eye kept wandering over to my large daisy stamp.  So I said to myself...."Wendy (cause I always address myself by name - its only polite) that daisy sure would be cute around the edges" and you know what? I was right.  Then I was getting ready to color the daisies and was once again in a debate with myself on what colors I should use.  As I was working it out in my mind I thought..."well, let me start by doing the centers and then maybe by the time I am done I will decide what colors use".  Then I looked at the card....just like it was, with just a little hint of the color in the center (this was before I added the sentiment) and it just sort of stood out to me.  I liked it just as it was.  Basic. Simple. Clean. And so it was decided that was how it was going to stay!  I do think I am going to go back and add a little crystal laquer to the center of the daisy for a little extra pop!

I used J77- large daisy and D78 Happy Day stamps.

You still have a little time before our current challenge here at DeNami Addict ends. Remember, you don't even have to use a DeNami stamp, just stick to the "garden" theme. There's a link on our side bar...click it for all the info!

Bright and fun flowers

I'm gonna have to show Blogger a little love today...usually Blogger is not a real good friend and has a habit of being a little mean at times. However, today, Blogger is rockin'! Love the new changes that I'm seeing today...way to go Blogger!!

Wow, here in the Midwest we are having some strange weather...it was 85 degrees the other day...what the heck?!?!?! Well all this warm weather and rain has lots and lots of flowers blooming...so pretty!!

I just had to pull some out and play with them. While figuring out what I wanted to do I randomly pulled out some cardstock...without even thinking about it, I pulled out the current DeNami color challenge colors! I just love Emily's choice...she did awesome picking this combo, didn't she?

Hope you like what I came up with...
I used Magenta, Desert Orange, Lime & white (for the daisies & leaves) cardstocks
I wanted to have lots of dimension and texture so I dry embossed the orange strip that I edge punched and also dry embossed all the daises and leaves. I added buttons to the flower centers (don't tell anyone, but they were left overs from Halloween, lol) Ohh my, have ya'll tried out the new Fuchsia glitter yet...ohh I just LOVE it. It's not as red as the cranberry and not as hot pink as the magenta...it's more of a dark pinkish/purple, you should really try it out...what a great color!! I used it on the larger daisies and strawberry freeze on the smaller ones.

Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think....good or bad....or even better - what would you have done differently??...crafty minds wanna know!

Blog Hop - Wrap it Up...I'll Take It!

Yes, its that time again... Time for another Denami Blog Hop

The theme you ask (because you didn't see it in the little badge (ha, sorry I am feeling sarcastic today) - Gift Wrapping!

Now if you are following along in order, you should have arrived from the craft-tastic (yes, its a word) Linda Nomura. How creative is she? I mean stamping on cellophane?!?! Yeah, I gotta try that....AND I am not even gonna talk about the goodies inside....nope, not gonna do it....(but they do look yummy don't they?).

I went for the "all occasion" type of wrapping paper for two reasons. One...because I love love love the main stamp for my project and two....I did Christmas wrapping paper as a "no card" project last month! Yes, that's me, ahead of my time! If you want to see holiday themed paper click here and take a peek.

I used my favorite "go to" stamp for this and I have to say....it turned out much better than I thought. I mean, I thought it was going to be sorta boring and then when I put it together....well see for yourself....

Now I know I always give a closer look to some of my projects but this one really needs it...so you can see the cute little lady bug in flight....she adds just a little something extra that ties it all together....or at least she does in my opinion.

Stamps used: J77 Large Daisy, D75 Small Daisy Blossom, A88 Mini Polka Dot, A76 Ladybug

Now, don't forget to leave a comment. Why? you ask.....because if you do, you could just possibly win some Denami goodies! That's right, cold hard Denami cash (read that as gift certificate) to get some Denami yumminess - and really, can't we all just use a little more?

Next up in the hop...the lovely Suzanne Bier. Can't wait to see what she has in store for us today.

Now don't forget....if you get lost, just start back at the Denami Blog and you can find your way....

Well if my Twinkie can use a Daisy....

Then I guess that gives me permission to use it again too! HA!

A close-up....

The bow was a little....twisted....but I got tired of fussing with it so I left it as it was. I think it adds a little personality. Well, that's my story anyway and I am gonna stick to it!

Stamps used in this card....J77 Large Daisy, PF26 Assorted Greetings Petit Four Set

Daisy Maisy

I know I know....I use this stamp....A LOT! But its so girlie and fun and versatile. Since I have been leaving my cards blank lately, I decided to add a little sentiment on this one.

Now for a closer look...

Once again I used paper piecing for the petals and colored the center then used crystal laquer to set it off. I thought that cute little bitty lady bug was so cute it was just begging for me to add it.

Stamps used in this card: J77 Large Daisy Blossom, F172 Hello Friend Sentiment, A76 Teeny Ladybug, N128 Three Line Border

"Inspired" Birthday

So you know they say.....imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right? Well what is straight up "card lifting" considered? I don't consider it stolen because I am giving credit where credit is due.....and that is to the Ideas page over at Denami. See....they have such wonderful ideas for us to use when our creative juices are just not flowin like they should.

Now THIS is the card that they have......and mine is below. Yeah - pretty much a dead copy except I didn't use ribbon and I added a little bling with the rhinestones. So if your brain is ever "stuck" for an idea - go check out the projects over at Denami....you won't be stuck for long.

Stamps used when making this card: J77 Large Daisy Blossom, D75 Small Daisy Blossom, G112 Small Happy Birthday Script
