Project Corner - Folder Organizer

Hi everyone! I know that with the holidays and everything leading up to it that I've been slacking on keeping up with things around here. I'm trying my best to get everything back on track and am open to suggestions if y'all are wanting to see something in particular. ;)

Before we get to today's post, I have some fun news to tell you, I've been accepted to another design team!! I just can't believe it...I'm over the top excited! Now this isn't like The Shabby Tea Room, it's not a challenge blog with random sponsors. I'm on the design team for an actual company...Creations By AR. I was introduced to this company through The Shabby Tea Room and quickly fell in love with creating projects using Adela's easy to use templates. When she put out a call for design team members I was quick to apply!! My official first post will be on January 21st, 2014, but I thought I'd whip up a fun little project to introduce y'all to Creations By AR and to tell you about my good news.

With the new year starting many of us are trying to organize our lives and our junk so I thought a little organizational help was in order! If you're like me, you have a TON of the little dry embossing folders. They're pretty inexpensive and adorable so I end up picking a new one up quite often...then when I get home I have to find a place for it, sigh!! Problem solved - It's called a "Folder Organizer" and will hold a total of 30 dry embossing folders!!!

Cute, right? Recognize those polka dots?? Yup, my all time favorite DeNami stamp...polka dot background! After cutting my pieces I used a Versa Mark stamp pad to add yummy polka dots! The patterned paper trim pieces are all optional. There are also a few options for the base...including a darling little banner!! The skys the limit in detailing this set out, you can dress this little set up any way you want! The pink on the spines and the punched edge on the base along with all the ribbon trim are my ideas.

Now don't go thinking this is complicated, it's really not, I promise!! When you download the file it will have several versions; SVG, PDF & STUDIO along with detailed instructions in a PDF....

 

The instructions are pretty detailed and even have the number of sheets of paper you'll need along with the finished dimensions. If you don't have a cutting machine then you simply print out the PDF version and use the template to cut your patterned paper/cardstock. If you're using a cutting machine the instructions give you the measurements that you'll need to cut each piece. I really love that there are plenty of pictures along the way so that I can compare mine to theirs!!

Project Corner - Present Giftcard Holder Tutorial

Hi everyone, it's been quite a while since I've done a photo tutorial hasn't it?  I still haven't replaced my camera yet. I'm having a hard time coming to terms with the loss of my beloved "friend" and am kicking and screaming about having to find a replacement. Who has enough time on their hands to not only research cameras but to learn how to use it too...not me!!! So for now, my phone is not doing too bad a job ;)

Like I mentioned last week, I saw something similar to this on Pinterest...hmmm, maybe if I didn't spend so much time on Pinterest I could actually have time to research cameras??? Nah!!!! ;)

This little guy uses barely any paper (scraps really) and is super easy to put together - don't let the number of steps fool you, I just really broke it down!! I didn't have any measurements for the one I saw so I faked my way through it and I think I did rather well ;)

Here's what you need:

• cardstocks -

Bottom (red) 7 1/2" X 4 1/4"
top (santa print) 3" X 4 1/4"
strip (green) 1/2" X 3 3/4"
inside panel (white) 3 1/2" X 3 1/4"
circles (green & white) 1" & 1 1/2"

• hole punch
• brad
• glue
• ribbon
• ink
• sentiments

 



 Using the 7 1/2" X 4 1/4" piece...fold in half, then apply glue along 2 sides as shown in picture. Close fold and let dry just a minute.

Using a 1" punch (or just a pair of scissors) make a little notch in the "open" end (not glued or folded) of the square.

Using the 3" X 4 1/4" piece of patterned paper, fold it in half and set aside

 



Using the little 1/2" X 3 3/4" strip, attach it to the large notched square and trim to fit

 



Take the folded piece of patterned paper and place it over the notched end of the red square so that the square is actually inside the patterned paper (you should be able to see the patterned paper on the front and back). Next, using your hole punch, make a hole near the bottom left corner of the patterned paper then attach the brad. This forms your "lid" to open the holder

 

 



Setting that aside, bring out your punched circles. Stamp your sentiment or decorate it however you'd like

 

 Layer your punched circles and attach to the bottom right corner of the holder. Using a length of ribbon, make a bow and attach to the top of the holder

Set the holder aside and using the piece of 3 1/2" X 3 1/4" white cardstock, stamp a sentiment  (or decoration) at the top

Using a glue dot or adhesive gun, attach your gift card to the 3 1/2" X 3 1/4" white panel as shown

Open your holder and slip the gift card inside :)  See, I told you it was EASY-PEASY!!!

 

 

 The one I made to show you haw to do it was pretty plain, but you can dress it up quite a bit by scalloping the edge of the "lid", dry embossing the bottom portion, using all patterned papers or stamping patterns, using ribbon over the narrow strip of cardstock on the bottom, use a die cut or image in place of the punched circles, punch 2 small holes at the top to feed the ribbon through before making your bow vs. gluing it....just to name a few ways. Have fun with it, change it up and make it your own :)

 

 



DeNami August Blog Hop - Sweet & Simple

Before we get started, I need to apologize for my photos. I have no clue what is going on, but my camera is having a melt down....sorry!!!

I know y'all are expecting multiple projects from me as usual. However, I kind of do and don't have multiple projects this month ;) I made a little set of note cards to fit various occasions.

I went with different themes and a broad color palette, but stuck with the same layout so they all "matched".

 

Stamps used:

• small solid hibiscus
• solid leaf sprig
• round leafy tree
• tropical drink set
• mini butterfly
• polka dot butterfly
• small spring flowers
• assorted greeting set
• heartfelt greeting set
• everyday greeting set

• thoughtful greeting set

 

And you can't have note cards with out a little holder of some kind, right? I simply dressed up a DeNami 3X3 boutique box with a strip of black cardstock, then added a strip of charcoal that I had punched both long edges on and added a doily. If I did it over again I would leave off the doily. I wanted to really draw your eye to the sentiment so I punched a black scalloped circle and a piece of velum to soften it before adding the elegant word plate with the sentiment from the all occasion trifle stamp set.

 

My cards are 3X3 and the envelopes are actually 3 1/8 X 3 1/8. The envelopes are just a little bit big for my box, but since I only made 6 cards there's plenty of room to put the envelopes in at a little bit of an angle so everything fits nicely.

Recipe cards

Hi everyone, are you ready for a fun new project to try out? I have to confess something, this isn't the project I was going to show this month but i just didn't have the time to edit the photo tutorial I made because I didn't have a computer or access to the Internet for about 5 days. Luckily I had this little project sitting on a shelf ;)

The pictures are kinda bad, sorry about that. I'm just a hot mess these days and it's starting to show :/  but let's not dwell on that, let's get to what I think is a FUN little project that makes a great gift or something fun for yourself.

RECIPE CARDS!!!

I know that now a days we tend to not use recipe cards and that some of you younger gals are not even sure what the heck I'm even talking about what with the Internet and printing them out. They're kinda obsolete, I'll admit that. But there's just something about pulling out a little food stained card with a handwritten recipe on it that makes me all warm and toasty.  I wish I could say they bring back memories of my Grandma or Mother cooking up a Sunday or holiday dinner, however, I never got the chance to meet my Grandmothers and well, Mom just didn't do that, lol. Maybe it's just my wishful thinking and wanting a little nostalgia? At any rate, I simply love them.

DeNami has a ton of stamps that are perfect for making fun recipe cards. I've pulled out a few from my collection

Fruits, veggies and yummy dessert stamps.

Right now my kitchen is red and white with gingham and cherries (The gingham is no surprise is it, lol???) so I made a few cards to match. I can put these on my ohh so cute cherry memory boards my sister, Pam, made for me. I also made a few for veggie / side dishes and who doesn't love dessert...I have my priorities ya know ;)

While they are fun to keep, they are also fun to give. Do you know someone moving to a new home or getting married? A few kitchen towels, a wood spoon and a bit of ribbon makes a real cute gift when you add a few home made recipe cards with some yummy hand written tummy love on them...

Maybe you can start a new tradition by using recipe cards and passing them down to your daughter, grand daughter or whomever.

The Project Corner - Easter Card video

Hi everyone! Today I have another easy start to finish card for you. I really enjoy making the videos, but editing the coloring and lighting, well, that's a whole nother story, lol!! I'm just not very good at it and frankly, it's a challenge...Good thing making them out weighs all of that! ;)  I hope you enjoy!!

I thought and though and dismissed many ideas for an Easter card video. I finally came up with this easy layout and am super excited about this one because of you being able to change it up easily by just using different patterned papers. You can see what I mean in the pictures that follow the video. Super fun + super easy = WIN WIN! I hope you give this card a try!

Cardstock measurements:
Celery - 8 1/2 X 5 1/2, 1 1/8 X 5 1/4
White - 1 1/2 X 5 1/5
Patterned Paper - 4 1/8 X 5 1/4

Here are the different cards I made. Remember, there are no limits...change up the papers, color scheme or rhinestones.

The Project Corner - Valentines Day

Hi everyone and welcome to The Project Corner. I'm a few days early with this post, but Valentines Day  creeped up on me pretty quickly and I really wanted you to see the cute kid friendly projects I came up with. I know that many of you have little ones at home and are always trying to find little projects for them. So today I have two cute and easy little Valentines Day projects for the kiddo's to make (with a little help of course).

This first one is super super easy....

I simply stamped the large butterfly and fussy cut it out. After it was colored (unfortunately I didn't have a kiddo handy to do this) I punched 2 holes and using a pipe cleaner, attached it to the sucker. I brought the pipe cleaner up and twisted it around the "head" of the butterfly and formed her little antenas. To finish it off just add some googly eyes and well-ah...a pretty little Valentine Butterfly perfect for Grandma, Daddy or even a teacher. *note: after your child colors the butterfly, have him/her write a message on the back.

This second project is a little bit more involved, but with a little help or if you have an older child, I think it can be managed perfectly. I actually made this for my hubby for our 22nd anniversary last fall but it can EASILY be made with a Valentine in mind. We are way cheesy and enjoy quirky little things like this....

I simply took two pieces of cardboard (one 8 1/2 X 11 and the other slightly larger - 9 X 11 1/2) and covered them with black cardstock (wrapping it around the edge and then placing a piece over it on the back side to cover the edges). I then stamped my panels (made slightly smaller than the 8 1/2 X 11 panel) and adhered them to the front cover (the smaller piece). As you can see, I simply found some fun images via Google and using the Word program on my computer made a fun and cheesy "story", but how fun would it be to fill your book with some drawings or coloring pages by your little one? *tip - go to google, click the images tab and then type in "coloring pages + Valentine" and it will give you loads of fun coloring book pages to print off for a fun afternoon of coloring enjoyment ;)* To finish it all off I simply punched some holes and bound my book using random twine & ribbons. I had such fun making this project and hubby LOVED it. This would even be a fun project for just about any theme...birthdays, Mothers Day, Fathers Day....

Here's a few cute images to get you started (click on them to enlarge then right click and choose "save picture as". Now you can go into your pictures file and simply print it to the size you choose.)
